ATHENS - Ruth Burroughs, 78, died Monday, August 24, 2009.
A native of Madison County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas A. and Clara Fannie Spratlin Burroughs.
She was retired from the textile industry as an inspector and a member of Hull Baptist Church. Ms. Burroughs was preceded in death by brothers, Leroy Burroughs, Harry Burroughs and Spurgeon Burroughs; and sisters, Rebecca Burroughs, Sara Burroughs and Sue Sughrue.
Survivors include a sister, Irene Strickland, Colbert; nephews, Arnal Strickland, Denver Strickland, Mike Burroughs, Phil Burroughs, Pete Burroughs, Ed Sughrue and Jim Sughrue; and nieces, Diane Adams, Sandra Pou, Phyllis Gordon and Deborah Crow.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, August 28, at Evergreen Memorial Park with the Rev. Ray Jenkins officiating. Nephews, Arnal Strickland, Denver Strickland, Mike Burroughs, Phil Burroughs, Pete Burroughs, Ed Sughrue and Jim Sughrue will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the Frierson family. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday, August 27, from 7 to 9 p.m.
