ATHENS – Ruth Jacks Elrod, 99, Redstone Community, died Monday, August 17, 2009.
Born in Jackson County, she was the daughter of the late Nathaniel and Lunie Sheffield Jacks. She was a homemaker and a member of the Ebenezer Methodist Church. Mrs. Elrod was preceded in death by her husband, J.T. Elrod; and a son, Jimmy Elrod.
Survivors include daughters, Betty Gibson and Claire Venable, both of Jefferson, and Martha Nelms, Athens; a son, Theo Elrod, Fruitland Park, Fla.; ten grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Jenny Bruce, Stone Mountain.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 19, at 11 a.m., in the chapel of Evans Funeral Home with the Revs. Jesse Mealor and Bill Carpenter officiating. Burial will be in the Ebenezer Methodist Church cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 18, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
