ATHENS - Clyde M. Thomas, 87, died Wednesday, August 12, 2009.
Born in Greene County, he was the son of the late George Washington Thomas, Sr. and Minnie Mae Morgan Thomas. He was a retired Air Force Colonel serving in World War II, having served 3 years in the Army and the rest in the Air Force. He had a private law practice in Kentucky, where he was a judge. Mr. Thomas was preceded in death by his first wife, Evelyn Banks Thomas; and his second wife, Carolyn Huff Thomas.
Survivors include a son, Paul B. Thomas, Franklin, Ky.; a daughter, Carol M. Hedger, Cheyenne, Wyo.; stepson, Richard Huff, Gainesville; stepdaughter, Janice Huff McDonald, Athens; brothers, Leroy Thomas, Winder, and Russell Thomas, Atlanta.
Funeral services will be held, Saturday, August 15, at 2 p.m., from Smith Memory Chapel. Burial will be in Barrow Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday, August 14, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
