Mary Bray

JEFFERSON – Mary Dowdy Bray, 78, died Wednesday, August 12, 2009.

Born in Jackson County, she was the daughter of the late Harold “Boots” and Christine Wilkes Dowdy. She was a homemaker and a member of the Bethany United Methodist Church. Mrs. Bray was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Bray; and brothers, Charles Dowdy and Ronny Dowdy.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Cristi and Mitch Mitchell, Jefferson; son and daughter-in-law, Drew and Chris Bray, Jefferson; brother, Jerry Dowdy, Demorest; sisters, Martha Crawford and Joy Wood, both of Jefferson; grandchildren, Chase and Brayson Mitchell, Hannah, Dakota and Mac Bray.

Funeral services will be held Friday, August 14, at 11 a.m., from the Bethany United Methodist Church with the Revs. Jesse Mealor, Mike McLemore and Carl Mealor officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Frankie Bray, Steve Dowdy, Rod Dowdy, Ron Dowdy, Hal Dowdy and Mark Hardigree. Honorary pallbearers will be Slim Williamson, Doug Waters, Don Burchett and Randy Moore. The family will receive friends Thursday, August 13, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
