Walter Rice

JEFFERSON – Walter Edward Rice, 78, died Tuesday, August 11, 2009.

Born on May 27, 1931, in Woodruff, S.C., he was the son of the late James and Alpha Mae Trammel Rice. He was an engineer with General Time-Westclox and was of the Baptist denomination. Mr. Rice was preceded in death by a brother, Boyce Rice.

Survivors include his wife, Diane Rice, Jefferson; sons, Rusty Rice, Milledgeville, Steve Rice, Danielsville; daughters, Vicky Martin, Comer, Mary Wood, Rutledge; stepchildren, Scott Wilkes, Jefferson, and Keith Wilkes, Anderson, S.C.; sister, Brenda Hardeman; 14 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and 3 step-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday, August 14, at 2 p.m., in the chapel of Evans Funeral Home with the Rev. Eric Shelton officiating. Burial will be in Evans Memory Gardens. Serving as pallbearers will be Brad Rice, Garrett Rice, Daniel Martin, Adam Martin, Russell Rice and Kevin Hardeman. The family will receive friends Thursday, August 13, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Evans Funeral Home, Jefferson, is in charge of arrangements.
