HULL - Edgar Roy Stewart, 90, born September 29, 1918, in Oglethorpe County, died Sunday, August 9, 2009, at Athens Heritage Home, Athens.
A lifelong resident of this area, he was a son of the late Nay Gunter and James Elijah Stewart. He was a homebuilder for many years, and had a major part in several renovations at Hull Baptist Church and several other church projects in the area. He was a deacon of Hull Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Glenn Brown Sunday School Class. Mr. Stewart was preceded in death by brothers, Robert Russell Stewart, J.C. Stewart, Howard J. Stewart, and James Donald Stewart; sisters, Mattie Sue Prather and Lillian Gaynelle Peterman.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Drake Stewart; daughters, Betty (Charles) Dooley and Alice (Morris) Bullock, all of Hull; brother, Jimmy Kelly Stewart, Hondo, Texas; sisters, Frances Duckworth, Colbert, Sarah Ellen Wages and Ruth Human, both of Athens; grandchildren, Daniel A. (Melissa) Dooley, Marsha Dooley (Jimps) Cole, C. Matthew (Patti) Dooley, M. Benjamin Bullock, Stewart Clinton (Megin) Bullock; great-grandchildren, Mary Beth Dooley, Anna Dooley, Harrison Dooley, Victoria Dooley, Molly Cole, Jackson Bullock and Carson Stewart Bullock.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 12, at Hull Baptist Church with the Rev. Randy Crowe officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Grandsons and nephews served as pallbearers.
Memorials may be made to the Hull Baptist Church Building Fund.
Lord and Stephens, East, was in charge of arrangements.
