EDGEWATER, MD. – Evelyn Ruth Rawlings, 68, died Monday, August 3, 2009, at University Hospital, Baltimore, Md., following sudden complications from a stroke.
Born on February 8, 1941, in Prince Georges County, Md., she lived many years in Edgewater, Md., moved to Danielsville in 1982, then back to Edgewater, Md. in 2006. She was a bookkeeper with Freestate Leasing Inc., in Edgewater, Md., and for 32 years was a tax preparer with H&R Block at various locations in Maryland and Georgia. She was a member of the St. Andrews United Methodist Church, member of Ladies Auxiliary American Legion Post 226, Mayo, Md. She loved to travel, especially her trip to Cancun, also trips to Atlantic City, N.J., Quarter Auctions and slot machines, and reading romance novels. Mrs. Rawlings was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Rawlings Sr.; a son, Harry Rawlings Jr.; brothers, Robert Tippett, Clarence Tippett and Eugene Tippett.
Survivors include a son, Joseph Rawlings, Edgewater, Md.; daughter, Patricia Rawlings Bragg, Edgewater, Md.; brother, Bernard Tippett, Upper Marlboro, Md.; sisters, Helen Sweeney, Riva, Md., and Elizabeth Tucker, Upper Marlboro, Md.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 8, at 12 noon at the St Andrews United Methodist Church. Visitation will be Friday, August 7, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., at Hardesty Funeral Home, and Saturday, August 8, 11 a.m. to noon at the St. Andrews United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Lakemont Cemetery, Davidsonville, Md.
