Pamela “Kay” Melvin, 59, of Bogart, died Monday, June 30, 2008.
Born in Clarke County, she was the daughter of Frances Thornton of Statham and the late Clyde Thornton. She was a member of Athens Beech Haven Baptist Church, a member of Brenda Newtons Dance Team, member of Winder Woman’s Club, The Young at Heart Sunday School Class and CBS Bible Study in Athens. She was a 1967 graduate of Winder Barrow High School, received an associate in nursing from West Georgia, and was employed by Piedmont Hospital in recovery and OR over 20 years.
Survivors include her husband, Hoyt Melvin, Bogart; sons and daughter-in-law, Mark and Beth Melvin, Watkinsville, Michael Melvin, Senoia; grandchildren, Molly and Henry Melvin; brothers and sisters-in-law, Alton and Frieda Thornton, Athens, Phil and Jennifer Thornton, Brevard, N.C., Dr. Robert Thornton, Atlanta.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 2, at 2 p.m., at Smith Memory Chapel with Dr. Stewart Sims officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday, July 1, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. The body will be cremated.
