JEFFERSON - Isabella Cox Stovall, 98, died Wednesday, July 29, 2009, at her residence.
She was born August 3, 1910, in Clarkton, N.C., the daughter of the late Edgar James and Julia Eva Cromartie Cox. In her earlier years, she served as superintendent of welfare for Bladen County, N.C., and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jefferson. Mrs. Stovall was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. James Thomas Stovall; sister, Catherine Cox Chew; and brothers, Nathan and James Cox.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Julia S. and Robert Howard, Woodruff, S.C.; son and daughter-in-law, James Thomas Stovall III and Mildred Stovall, Homerville; grandchildren: James Thomas Stovall IV, Sarah Isabella Howard Lloyd, Benjamin Clark Stovall, and Julia Anna Howard Ward; nine great-grandchildren; and a special caregiver, Connie Smith.
Funeral services were held Saturday, August 1, at the First Baptist Church of Jefferson with Dr. Michael Helms officiating. Private burial was held at Woodbine Cemetery, Jefferson. Serving as pallbearers were Robert Chew III, Hugh Fisher, Terry Church, Granger Smith, Tom Stovall, and Robert Chew IV.

Evans Funeral Home, Jefferson, was in charge of arrangements.
