PENDERGRASS – Thomas Woodrow Murphy, 94, died Sunday, August 2, 2009.
Born on March 22, 1915, in Jackson County, he was the son of the late William Puckett and Eliza Skelton Murphy. He was a foreman with the railroad. Mr. Murphy was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Cooper Murphy; a son-in-law, Melvin Oglesby; daughter-in-law, Virginia Rector Murphy; sisters, Florence Narvil, Ethel Rainwater, Flossie Ash and Floella Murphy; brothers, Earnest Murphy and Edward Murphy.
Survivors include children, Dale Murphy, Milledgeville, Carol Holzhalb, Woodie Oglesby and William Murphy, all of Pendergrass; grandchildren, John Paul and Mindy Murphy, Monroe, Michelle and Ric Matarrese, Alpharetta, Julie and Chris Allen, Rome, Matt and Summerlin Holzhalb, Covington, La., Mindy and Jason Winn, Bluffton, S.C., and Randy and Tracey Murphy, Pendergrass; 13 great-grandchildren; siblings, Melvin Murphy and Lilly Evans, both of Pendergrass, Clara Thomas, Bartow, and Buna Buffington, Gainesville.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 5, at 10 a.m., in the chapel of Evans Funeral Home with Charles Jenkins officiating. Burial will be in Mountain Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 4, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
