HOMER – James Buford Caudell, 85, died Saturday, August 1, 2009, at Habersham County Medical Center following a brief illness.
Born in Banks County on July 11, 1924, he was the son of the late Luther Calvin and Mary C. Caudell. He was a member of Homer Baptist Church and was retired as a foreman from Chicopee Manufacturing, and was a United States Army veteran, having served in the European Theater during World War II, where he was a POW being held in Germany. He enjoyed hunting, gardening, farming and other outdoor activities, and spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Mr. Caudell was preceded in death by his wife, Mary O. Caudell; a son, Larry Caudell; sisters, Mary Louise Short and Annese Ola Caudell; and a brother, Brodus Caudell.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Ponda and Lou Wood, Roswell; sister, Kitty R. Caudell, Homer; brother, Dewey Winford Caudell, Mt. Airy; grandchildren, Melissa Tirico, Jim Wood, Dr. Misty Dawn Caudell; great-grandchildren, Ella Marie Wood, Lily Kathryn Wood, and Sophia Melissa Tirico.
Funeral services were held Monday, August 3, from Homer Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Crabbe officiating. Burial was in Banks County Memorial Gardens, with full military honors provided by the Grant Reeves VFW Post #7720, Rabun County DAV Chapter #15, and the American Legion Post #84.
