GAINESVILLE – Eunice Leola Fowler Simmons Ladd, 85, died Sunday, July 26, 2009, at Athens Regional Medical Center in Athens following an extended illness.
Born on August 11, 1923, in Gilmer County, she was the daughter of the late John Presley and Ida Brookshire Fowler. She worked many years for J.D. Jewell and then later at Clore’s Restaurant. Mrs. Ladd was preceded in death by husbands, Carl Simmons and Sylva Ladd; a daughter, Carol Franks; granddaughter, Kourtney Dill; sister, Illar Stover; and brother, Donald Fowler.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Cleda and Donald Mote, Commerce; son, Carl L. Simmons Jr., Gainesville; grandchildren, Debra and Anthony Burson, Courtney Cantrell, all of Commerce, Elizabeth and Chris Shaw, Flowery Branch, Rebecca Perry Ketchun, Carl Simmons III and Charlotte Simmons, Carol and Arthur Cantrell, all of Gainesville; 15 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Gerthal Stover, Chatsworth; and brother and sister-in-law, Delmer and Doris Fowler, Gainesville.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 29, in the chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home with the Revs. Phillip Wehunt, Barney Johns and Elder Wendell Stover officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorial Park Funeral Home, Gainesville, was in charge of arrangements.
