‘Jim’ Akins

STATHAM – Arthur James “Jim” Akins, 85, died Thursday, July 23, 2009.

Born in Barrow County, he was the son of the late Jeffie C. and Hattie M. Shaw Akins. He was retired after 46 years from Barrow Manufacturing Company and was a member of Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include his wife, Nell Akins, Statham; sons and daughters-in-law, Rodney and Vicky Akins, Statham, Jeff and Gail Akins, Auburn, and Marty and Dawn Akins, Winder; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother, Floyd Akins, Statham; and sisters, Ola Bell Chandler and Dorothy Ferguson, both of Winder.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 25, at 2 p.m., at Smith Memory Chapel with the Rev. Leon Pass officiating. Burial will be in Barrow Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday, July 24, from 6 to 9 p.m.
