COMMERCE – Eric D. “Buford Heavy” Duncan, 60, died Wednesday, July 15, 2009.
He was the son of the late O.D. Duncan and Lora Allen Duncan Carr of Braselton and step-father, the late William Carr. He was a 1967 graduate of North Gwinnett High School, was a machinist by trade, but his passion was building dragsters and racing. He owned Buford’s Automotive in Commerce. Over the years he worked as crew chief for Jerome Bradford, Gary Brown and Warren Johnson, and during this time they each won a championship. Mr. Duncan was preceded in death by a niece, Dana Everett.
Survivors in addition to his mother include his wife, Beverly Dobbs Duncan, Commerce; sister and brother-in-law, Florence and Jim Garmon, Braselton; stepbrother, Mike Carr, Pennsylvania; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Bill and Dorothy Dobbs, Marietta; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Carol and Ken Argo, Powder Springs; one niece; two nephews; and several great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 18, at 4 p.m. in the chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home with the Rev. Billy Manus officiating. Burial will be in Broadlawn Memorial Gardens in Buford. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday, July 17, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m.
