Mary Evelyn Garrett Huff, 93, of Snellville, died.
She was born on April 6, 1913, in Oconee County, one of eight farm children born during the depression. She graduated from Athens Normal School and University of Georgia, with a bachelor of science in education, the first of the family to graduate college. Mrs. Huff was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, COL William S. Huff. Before and during her military years with her husband, she taught school, including a mountain Georgia country school and in Virginia. She finished her teaching career in Gwinnett County after her husband retired from military service.
Survivors include a brother, Dick Garrett, Statham; sister, Claire McDougald, Statham; sons, COL William S. Huff II, LTC Charles M. Huff, and Jim H. Huff; daughters-in-law, COL Lisa MacGuire and Cheri Huff; grandchildren, Elizabeth Goodwin and spouse, Wayne, Tiffany, Brittany, Sean and Michelle Huff; one great-grandchild, William Goodwin.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 12, in Smith Memory Chapel with the Rev. Larry Davidson officiating. Burial was in Bethabara Baptist Church cemetery.
Smith Funeral Home, Winder, was in charge of arrangements.
