ALTO – Rev. Woodrow W. “Woody” Hix, 70, died Saturday, July 4, 2009, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Gainesville, following a brief illness.
Born in Hall County on September 18, 1938, he was the son of the late Thomas and Clara Loggins Hix. He was a Methodist minister for 48 years having served at various churches including Living Mission United Methodist Church, Mount Zion United Methodist Church, Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, where he was a member, Macedonia United Methodist Church, Corinth Baptist Church and Calvary Temple. He was also a self-employed mechanic and an active member of the Cherokee Gun Club, Gainesville.
In addition to his parents Mr. Hix was also preceded in death by a sister, Mary Frances Hix, and three brothers, Guy Hix, Cohen Hix and an infant brother.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Linda J. Hix, Alto; daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Terry Scott, Alto; son and daughter-in-law, Reggie and Sonya Hix, Alto; sister, Maezelle Martin, Alto; sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Dorsey Haynes, Alto; brother, Paul Hix, Alto; brothers and sisters-in-law, J.C. and Glenda Hix, Alto, and Silas and Alice Hix, Lula; three grandchildren, Haley Scott, Easton Singleton and PresLee Hix; mother and father-in-law, ParaLee and Noyl Goodson, Alto; brother and sister-in-law, Erwin and Peggy Bennett, Homer; sister and brother-in-law, Claydean and Eugene Coker, Alto; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 2009, at 2 p.m., in the chapel of McGahee-Griffin and Stewart Funeral Home, Cornelia, with the Revs. Jason Thornton and Dennis Taylor and Ret. Col. Alton Brock officiating. Burial will be in the Mount Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Tim Beasley officiating.
