Marie Gibson

GAINESVILLE – Marie Gibson, 84, died Thursday, June 25, 2009, at her residence following an extended illness.

Born on February 12, 1925, in Habersham County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas W. and Wadie Eller Flanagan, and was a member of Bethany Baptist Church. Mrs. Gibson was preceded in death by her husband, Sanford A. Gibson.

Survivors include sons and daughter-in-law, Alvin W. Gibson, Lawrenceville, Ernest R. and Mildred Gibson, Commerce, and Harry D. Gibson, Gainesville; daughter, Vera A. Smith, Gainesville; grandchildren, Ernie Gibson, Sandy Allan Smith, Robert Gibson, Theshia M. Smith, Michael D. Gibson and Jason Gibson; brother, Thomas Flanagan; nephew, Tommy Flanagan; and a number of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sunday, June 28, at Bethany Baptist Church with the Rev. Lamar Purcell officiating. Burial was in Hazel Creek Baptist Church cemetery in Clarkesville.

Memorial Park Funeral Home, Gainesville, was in charge of arrangements.
