WINDER – Steven “Zook” Woodard, 51, died Tuesday, June 23, 2009, following a hard-fought battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born in Winder on March 11, 1958, he was the son of the late Donald B. Woodard and Carolyn and Sam Rooks of Winder. A 1976 graduate of Winder-Barrow High School, he served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Swaziland, South Africa, and was employed as a journeyman carpenter with Beck Construction for 10 years. Mr. Woodard was preceded in death by grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. A.G. Langley, Lytle, Texas, and Mr. & Mrs. J. Clide Anderson, Athens.
Survivors in addition to his mother and stepfather, include fiancee, Lisa Dew Maxwell and her son, Sam, Bishop; a sister, Donna (David) Smith, Flowery Branch; brother, Van (Lisa) Woodard, Winder; nephew, Ryan (Courtney) Smith, Braselton; and nieces, Peyton Smith Mize (Leonard), Sugar Hill, and Emily Woodard, Winder; stepsiblings, Clarisa (John) Stapleton, Statham, Melissa Hope, Oakwood, and Sammy Rooks, Winder; and many other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held Friday, June 26, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home. Memorial services will immediately follow in the Smith Memory Chapel.
