JEFFERSON – William “Billy” Hays Jr., 75, died Saturday, June 20, 2009.
Born in Jackson County, he was the son of the late W.H. Hays Sr. and Bertie Simmons Hays. He was a member and active supporter of Union Baptist Church, was a lifetime farmer, loved to pitch horseshoes, and enjoyed swimming in the Mulberry River.
Survivors include his wife, Carrie Lee Hays, Statham; sons and daughters-in-law, John and Teresa Hays and Chris and Lisa Hays, all of Jefferson; daughters and sons-in-law, Tammy and Michael Hyder and Carol and Ashley Wilson, all of Jefferson; eleven grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Betsy and Ray McDonald, Winder, and nephews, Jimmy and Andy McDonald.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 24, at 2 p.m., at Union Baptist Church with the Rev. Leon Pass officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday, June 22, from 6 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday June 23 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
