ALTO – Dr. Joel Tench, 62, died Saturday, June 6, 2009 at his residence following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Habersham County on December 12, 1946, he was the son of the late Bryant Andrew and Velma Mathis Tench. He was a graduate of Piedmont College and Logan Chiropractic College, former owner of chiropractic businesses in Cleveland and Commerce and most recently taught at two local private Christian schools in Habersham County. He was a member of Compass Community Church, Athens, attended Harvest Christian Church in Clarkesville, and was a veteran having served in the United States Army. Dr. Tench was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend who will be deeply missed, loved ones stated.
Survivors include his loving wife of 35 years, Lynn Slaton Tench, Alto; son and daughter-in-law, Bryant and Jennifer Tench, Clarkesville; sister and brother-in-law, Karen and Jim Tench, Cornelia; grandchildren, Katherine Tench and Andrew Tench, both of Clarkesville, niece, Jenny T. Sanders, Cornelia; nephew, Jay Tench, Cornelia; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
A celebration of life service was held Monday, June 8, at the Harvest Christian Church with Pastor Rick Cox and the Rev. Craig Bayham officiating. Dr. Tench’s wishes were to be cremated.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Harvest Christian Church.
Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, was in charge of arrangements.

Im really going to miss him i was a student of his and he was an amazing person. He was so happy and loving its just so hard to believe this happened im really going to miss him and my heart goes out to his family.
