PENDERGRASS – Gene Mangum, 77, died Monday, June 1, 2009, at his residence following an extended illness.
Born on July 17, 1931, in Hall County, he was the son of the late Parson and Ola Mae Gee Mangum. He owned and operated Gene’s Used Cars for 35 years or more, and also owned several race cars. He was a member of Fairview Baptist Church, and was preceded in death by a son, Kenny Mangum.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Mangum; daughters, Deborah Burnett, Maysville, Carolyn Crane, Gainesville, and Tammy Conner, Jefferson; sons, Johnny Mangum, Lula, Donald Mangum, Gainesville, Kenneth “Dinky” Mangum and Gary Mangum, both of Pendergrass, and Larry Mangum, Commerce; brothers, Talmadge Mangum and Rad Mangum, both of Gainesville; a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; grandson, Daniel Conner, Fort Jackson, S.C.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 3, at 2 p.m., at Center Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. John Spinks and Junior Jones officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday, June 2, from 7 to 9 p.m., at the funeral home.
