JEFFERSON – Mattie Kate Burgess Hardy, 95, died Monday, June 1, 2009.
Born in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Emmanuel and Annie Lizzie Bentley Burgess. She was a homemaker and a member of New Salem Baptist Church. Mrs. Hardy was preceded in death by her husband, William Ralph Hardy; and daughters, Annie Catherine Hardy Moon and Ruby Jean Hardy Danner.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce and Saul White, Pearl and Clarence Kinney, all of Jefferson, Sandra Freeman, Decatur; sons and daughters-in-law, Ralph Edgar and Janice Hardy, Albany, Thomas and Linda Hardy, Jefferson, John and Bessie Hardy, Statham, Kelvin and Patricia Hardy, Vallejo, Calif; five sisters-in-law, adopted daughter, Dorothy Hardy Victrum, Jefferson; 24 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 4, at 1 p.m., from the New Salem Baptist Church with the Revs. Hazell Quarles and Michael Moon officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Hardy will lie in state from 12 p.m. until the time of service at the church. The cortege will assemble at 12:15 p.m., Thursday, at 182 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Jefferson, GA 30549. The family will receive friends Wednesday, June 3, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
