STATHAM – Joe Hammons, 77, died Wednesday, May 27, 2009.
Born in Corbin, Ky., he was the son of the late Joseph Edward and Lillian Wagers Hammons. He was owner/operator of Hammons Plaster Company, and was a United States Army and Air Force veteran, having served in the Korean Conflict. Mr. Hammons was preceded in death by a sister, Loretta Davis; and brother, Benjamin Hammons.
Survivors include his wife, Joan Fortson Hammons, Statham; sons, Ken Hammons, Heavener, Okla., Joe Hammons Jr., Conyers, David Hammons, Joshua, Texas; daughters, Misti Wheeler, Bismarck, Ark., Terri Jenkins, Harrah, Okla., Marie Trusty, Moore, Okla.; stepchildren, Lindsey and Brian Outten, Norcross, Gordon Conley, Statham; 18 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and brothers, Carl Hammons, Hamilton, Ohio, and Bob Hammons, Willingboro, N.J.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 30, at 11 a.m., in Smith Memory Chapel with the Revs. Greg McKinney and Mark Parham officiating. The body will be cremated after the service. The family will receive friends Friday, May 29, from 7 to 9 p.m., at the funeral home.
