Garner Millwood

GAINESVILLE – Garner R. Millwood, 76, died Wednesday, May 27, 2009, at New Horizons North Nursing Home, following an extended illness.

Born on November 10, 1932, in Gainesville, he had lived most of his life in Hall County, and was the son of the late Jim and Mary Jane Brackett Millwood. Mr. Millwood was preceded in death by a son, Alan Millwood; daughter, Marsha Helen Millwood; brothers, Warren Millwood, Norman Millwood, Walter Millwood, Donald Millwood, Edward Millwood, H.W. Millwood, Ernest Millwood and Franklin Millwood; and sisters, Bertie Brackett and Johnnie Ruth Parker Jenkins. He served in the United States Army, was an avid board and card game player and loved people.

Survivors include special family members, nephews, Mike Parker and Jimmy Brackett; daughter and son-in-law, Charline “Charli” and David Hand Jr., Marble Hill; sons and daughter-in-law, Darrell and Juanita Millwood, Lula, James Millwood, Gainesville; grandchildren, Scott Grindle, Dana Thompson, Anjelica Millwood, all of Gainesville, Renee Watts, Cornelia, Shannon Millwood, Lula, Tabitha Bramblett, South Carolina, Brandy Rodriguez, Gillsville, and Breianna Hand, Cumming; great-grandchildren, Alyssa Grindle and Alexis Thompson, Nevaeh Millwood, all of Gainesville, Blake and Anna Watts, Cornelia, Draven and Sean Millwood, Lula, Kameko Cole-Millwood, South Carolina; sister and brother-in-law, Nellie and E.S. Patterson; sisters-in-law, Florence Millwood and Jean Millwood; special friend, Delana Hand; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 30, at 11 a.m., in the chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home with the Rev. William McCumber officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, May 29, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
