DAWSONVILLE - Alvin Edwin Bradley, Jr., 91, formerly of Winder, died Thursday, May 28, 2009.
Mr. Bradley was a devout Christian and served his Church, Gospel Light Baptist, in Bethlehem, faithfully as an Elder and loved to pass out tracts that said “How to get to Heaven from Bethlehem, Georgia.” He also served his Country in World War II. His duty was to over-see the maintenance of eight P-47s and was given a bronze star for “meritorious service”. He was a member of the World War II Atlanta Round Table and was presented a Commander’s Coin on November 29, 2007, at age 90, at a weekly meeting of the Rotary Club of Winder. He was born June 10, 1917, in Barrow County and graduated from Winder High School at age 15. He returned to Barrow County after retiring from the post office in 1972 and worked another eight years for Ebasco, an engineering firm in Norcross. Mr. Bradley was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Cleo Griswell Bradley; mother and father, Alvin E. Bradley, Sr. and Maggie Wages Bradley; brothers, Herman, Cloyd, Robert and Jesse; and sister, Beatrice B. Higginbotham.
Survivors include children, Joan and Edwin Jackson, Cleveland, Jim and Kim Bradley, Dawsonville, Bob and Becky Bradley, Franklin, N.C.; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Sara Letchas, Alpharetta, Dorothy and Bob Melo, Tucker, Doris and Tony Nicolo, Ovieda, Fla.; brothers, Ansel and Betty Bradley, Crossville, Tenn., Lyman and Clivia Bradley, Murphy, N.C. and Newberry Fla.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 30, at 1 p.m., in the Chapel of Carter Funeral Home, with the Revs. David Stroup and Charles Blackstock officiating. Burial with full military honors will be at Floral Hills Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday, May 29, from 3-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
