‘Jim’ Smith

HULL – James Everett “Jim” Smith, 84, died Saturday, May 23, 2009.

A native of Oglethorpe County, he was the son of the late C.A. and Corrie Venable Smith. He was retired from General Motors after more than 30 years of employment, and in 1989 returned to Madison County to live. He was a veteran, having served in the United States Army during World War II. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Grace Young Smith.

Survivors include children, Donna Durham, Conyers, and Buddy Smith, Covington; a sister, Blanche Wilkins, Oglethorpe County; brothers, Bob Smith and Gaines Smith, both of Madison County; grandchildren, Lisa Smith, Kelly Smith and Greg Smith, all of Anderson, S.C.; great-grandchildren, Samantha Durham and Chance Durham, both of Snellville, Bryson Smith, Anderson, S.C.; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 26, in the chapel of Lord & Stephens Funeral Home with the Rev. Lee Smith officiating. Burial was in Colbert Cemetery.

Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, Danielsville, was in charge of arrangements.
