WINDER - Robert Harden Odom, 82, died Thursday, May 21, 2009.
Born in Chatham County, N.C., he was the son of the late Chafin A. and Irene Harden Odom. A member of St. Anthony’s Episcopal Church, he became a member of Winder Lions Club on October 1, 1959, and had perfect attendance for 45 years. He served as past president and held various other offices. Mr. Odom was a long time cook for the bi-monthly meetings, where his signature dishes were fried chicken and strawberry shortcake. He was a World War II Navy Veteran and a teacher for 30 plus years. A graduate of Bradwell Institute in Hinesville, Teacher College’s of Statesboro, and received his masters from the University of Georgia. He was past president of Jug Tavern Senior Citizens Golf Association. Mr. Odom was preceded in death by a brother, Albert Odom; and sister, Mae O. Whittle.
Survivors include his wife, Maggie Odom; daughter, Barbara Odom; daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Kenneth Rogers; grandchildren, Rusty and Casey Rogers, all of Winder; brother, Alton C. Odom, Statesboro; and sister, Virginia O. Morris, Sanford, N.C.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 24, at 2 p.m., from Smith Memory Chapel, with the Rev. John Burchfield, officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday, May 23, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
