Radie Maudelle Belk “Nig” Adams, 87, Cornelia, died Friday, May 15, 2009, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following an extended illness.
Born in Madison County, GA, on August 19, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Vernon C. and Reba McEwen Belk. Mrs. Adams was a member of Cornelia United Methodist Church and was the owner and operator of Nig’s Beauty Shop for over 60 years. She was also an avid bridge player and sports fan. She enjoyed baking cakes for her friends, and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence David Adams; brothers, Elton Belk, Derwent Belk; and sister, Sibyl Deyarmin.
Surviving are daughter and son-in-law, Vicki and Dennis Cathey of Demorest; son and daughter-in-law, David and Sheila Adams of Alto; sister, Jackie Hart of Danielsville; sister-in-law, Laverne Belk of Danielsville; grandchildren, Lyndee Cayupe, Brandon and Hope Adams, Matthew Cathey, Zachary Cathey and Caroline Cathey; and great-grandchildren, David Brock Adams, Emily Adams and Benjamin Cayupe.
Funeral services were held Sunday, May 17, 2009, at the chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home with Dennis Cathey and the Rev. Charlie Green officiating. Burial was in Yonah Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers the family request that memorials may be made to Hospice of NEGA Medical Center, 2150 Limestone Parkway Suite 2221, Gainesville, GA. 30501
