FLOWERY BRANCH – Ethel Hortense Carlan Chambers, 83, died Sunday, May 10, 2009, at Willow Wood Nursing Center, following an extended illness.
Born in Jackson County, she was the daughter of the late Rufus Eastus and Janie Elizabeth McDonald Carlan. She was of the Baptist denomination and was an accomplished artist. She loved working in her yard, music, life and her children, loved ones stated.
Mrs. Chambers was preceded in death by her husband of many years, Homer Bud Chambers; daughters, Baby Chambers and Lynn Chambers; brother, Buford Carlan; sisters, Naomi Grindle and Versie Perego. As both of her children by birth were deceased, she spent her years reaching out to children who needed her and became to many a loving mother of the heart. There are many in this life that could not have made it without her love and caring spirit and “Mama Ethel” will be missed by all her children of the heart.
Survivors include a sister-in-law, Minnie Lee Carlan; numerous nieces and nephews; and many children who were touched by her love.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 14, at 4 p.m., at Memorial Park Funeral Home-Riverside Chapel with the Rev. Loyd Martin officiating. Burial will be in New Bridge Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the New Bridge Baptist Church’s Meditation Garden, 3120 Cleveland Hwy., Gainesville, GA 30506.
Memorial Park Funeral Home North-Riverside Chapel, Gainesville, is in charge of arrangements.
