ROYSTON – Azel M. Ray, 75, died Saturday, May 9, 2009, at the Athens Regional Medical Center in Athens.
Born in Madison County on January 7, 1934, he was the son of the late James Floyd and Ruby Chastain Ray. He was retired from Franklin Industries and attended Corinth Holiness Church. Mr. Ray was preceded in death by a grandson, Greg Whitfield; and brothers, Floyd, James and Hugh Ray.
Survivors include his wife, Janie Deal Ray, Royston; sons, Calvin Ray and David Ray, both of Royston; daughters, Judy Ellison and Nancy Ashworth, both of Royston, and Dina Stovall, Elberton; brothers, Foster Ray and Ben Ray, both of Royston; sisters, Hilda Ray and Mary Ann Conway, both of Royston, Emilee Chastain, Clayton, and Sally Cromer, Rome; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 12, at 2 p.m., in the chapel of Pruitt Funeral Home with the Rev. Williard Crider officiating. Burial will be in the Unity Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday, May 13, from 7 to 9 p.m.
