JEFFERSON – John Edward Sikes, 80, died Thursday, May 7, 2009.
Born on November 6, 1928, in Jackson County, he was the son of the late Red and Nora Shumake Sikes. He worked in the Emory Yerkes Research Center and was a veteran, having served in the United States Navy in the Korean War. Mr. Sikes was preceded in death by a brother, Marion Sikes; and stepson, David Seabolt.
Survivors include his wife, Willie Sikes, Jefferson; son, Lee Sikes, Jefferson; daughters, Lucretia Brumbalow, Jefferson, and Lane Jones, San Marcos, Texas; sisters, Fay Wilson, Jefferson, and Sally Crohen, Germantown, Tenn.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 9, at 2 p.m., in the chapel of Evans Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Woodbine Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday, May 8, from 6 to 9 p.m.
