‘Buddy’ Guest

HULL – Wiliford N. “Buddy” Guest, 91, died Friday, April 24, 2009.

A native of Barrow County, he was the son of the late Elisha N. “Booty” and Icie Victoria Jones Guest. He was a deacon emeritus at Pleasant Grove Baptist church, where he was a member for over 50 years, was a Mason in Mt. Vernon Lodge 22, member of Athens Shrine Club #1 and the Yaarab Shrine Temple, Athens Piedmont Scottish Rite Association, Valley of Atlanta Scottish Rite, and 32nd Degree Scottish Rite, Athens Chapter 268 OES Eastern Star, and past president of the Whitehead Civitan Club in Athens. He was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps Division, serving in World War II, and retired from International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 613.

Survivors include children, George and Betty Guest, Mt. Airy, and Jane Kittle and fiancé, Jerry Stafford, Hull; brother and sister-in-law, Jake and Louise Guest, Athens; grandchildren, Donna Guest, Laura Guest, Tommy Guest, Becky Guest, Corbin Kittle and Brian Kittle.

Funeral services were held Sunday, April 26, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Jonathan Tolbert officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were the Deacons of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Hospice House or Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund.
