COMMERCE – Rosemary Carol Caddock Massey, 90, died Monday, April 27, 2009, at St. Mary’s Hospice House in Athens.
Born on November 29, 1918, in Kenosha, Wis., she was the daughter of the late Arthur Henry and Lillian Drapp Caddock. She graduated from Kenosha High School in Kenosha, Wis., and worked as a nurse’s aide at Kenosha Hospital and as a nanny for a family with three daughters. While working for and traveling with this family, she met her husband of 62 years, Shelby Lee Massey Sr., in Atlanta. They were wed November 4, 1942, in Commerce at the First Baptist Church Parsonage and she began her life as a military wife and mother. Mrs. Massey was preceded in death by her husband; a grandchild, Elizabeth Carol Buchanan; brother, Earl Caddock; and sister, Rita Caddock Hartnell.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Shelby L. “Butch” Massey Jr. and Martha Massey, Darrel A. Massey, Curt W. and Kitty Massey, Keith W. and Sandy Massey; daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia Carol and Alan Buchanan; grandchildren, Leigh Pascucelli, Shelby L. “Chip” Massey III, Christopher Massey, Joshua Massey, Patrick Massey, Kyle Massey, Taylor Massey, Will Massey, Kate Massey, Katy Leigh Buchanan; great-grandchildren, Natalie Pascucelli, Sara Beth Massey, Andrew Pascucelli, Blakely Massey, Mallory Massey and MacKenzie Massey.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 29, at 2 p.m., at the Mt. Olive Baptist Church with the Revs. Verlin Reece and Derry Oliver officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday, April 28, from 6 to 8 p.m.
