MONROE – Clarence J. Thomas, 75, formerly of Athens, died Friday, April 17, 2009.
A native of Franklin County, he was the son of the late William Marion and Myrtle Green Thomas. He was retired from Salloum Construction Company and was of the Baptist denomination. Mr. Thomas was preceded in death by his wife, Janice Phelps Thomas; and a grandson, Joshua Moate.
Survivors include a daughter, LaVerne Moate, Monroe; brothers, Luther Thomas, Baldwin, and Leonard Thomas, Athens; grandchildren, Christiana Peters and Holly Moate; and great-grandchildren, Briana Christina Peters, Kimberly Faith Peters and Brooks Thompson.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 21, at Bernstein Funeral Home with the Rev. Bryan Armour officiating. Burial was in Evergeeen Memorial Park. Pallbearers were James Thomas Jr., Lance Thomas, Lawrence Thomas, Len Thomas, Raymond Thomas and Rodney Peters.
Bernstein Funeral Home, Athens, was in charge of arrangements.
