ATHENS – Mary Emma Compton, 84, died Sunday, April 19, 2009, at Athens Regional Medical Center in Athens.
A native of Athens, she was the daughter of the late John H. and Mary Verona Morgan Williams. She was retired from advertising at The Athens Banner Herald and was a member of Crooked Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Bennie Warren Compton Jr. and Theresa Llewellyn Compton, Nicholson, Gene N. and Denise E. Compton, Athens; brothers, Bobby Williams, Johnny Williams; sister, Nancy Williams; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 21, at 2 p.m., at Crooked Creek Baptist Church with the Revs. Tom Miles and Jerry Varnadoe officiating. Burial will be at Athens Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be grandchildren, Scott Compton, William Burell Jr., Chris Compton, Ian Compton, Sherry Henderson, Tammy Kittle, Michael Compton, Steve Compton, and nephew, Carroll Puckett. The family will receive friends Monday, April 20, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
