COLBERT – Julian Gurley, 97, died Tuesday, April 14, 2009.
Born in Ila, he was the son of the late Tom and Betsey Scarborough Gurley. He was a carpenter by trade, was retired from Benson Bakery, and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Mr. Gurley was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Brooks Gurley.
Survivors include sons, James, Frank, Howard, Denver and Tommy Gurley; daughters, Mildred Miller, Dorothy Patton, Marjorie Williams, Sara Coker, Etta Gurley, Mary Hawkes, Hazel Bridges, Lunice Waggoner, Marie Gee, Shirley Smith, Barbara Gurley; sisters, Katherine McMann, Christine Malcolm; 45 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 17, at 2 p.m., at the World of Life Church with the Revs. Rufus Miller and Herman Nation officiating. Burial will be at Union Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be James, Frank, Howard, Tommy and Denver Gurley, Dennis Bridges, Thomas Hawkes and Steve Waggoner. Honorary pallbearers will be Albert Williams and Rufus Miller. The family will receive friends Thursday, April 16, from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.
Flowers will be accepted.

I am so sorry for your loss. I went to school. road the bus and my husband went to school with many of you. You are all in our prayers.
