RED HILL COMMUNITY – Robert Ervin Sosby, 89, died Wednesday, April 8, 2009, at the Brown Convalescent Center in Royston.
Born on May 4, 1919, in Franklin County, he was the son of the late Robert “Bob” and Mary Ivester Sosby. He was a farmer and had retired as an insurance salesman with American Family Life Insurance. Mr. Sosby is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Will Hulsey Sosby; son, Philip Gregory Sosby; and a brother, Hoyt Sosby. He was a member of the Allens United Methodist Church and taught Sunday School for over 30 years. He was a veteran, having served in the United States Army during World War II in the Pacific theater in the Philippines, Luzon and Okinawa.
Survivors include sons, Warren Sosby, Toccoa, and Jeff Sosby, Carnesville; daughter, Libby Sosby, Lavonia; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brother, Henry Sosby, Toccoa; and sister, Dorothy Allen, Royston.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 10, at the Allens United Methodist Church with the Revs. Walton McNeal and Ben Walker officiating. Burial with military honors was in the church cemetery.
