GREENVILLE S.C. – Eula Mae Roaden, 87, died Saturday, April 11, 2009.
Born in Williamsburg, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Charles and Minnie Smith Nicholson. She was a graduate of Cumberland College in Kentucky and the University of Georgia, with a master’s degree from Furman University. She taught at Grove and Northwood Elementary Schools and was a reading specialist at Travelers Rest and Gateway Elementary Schools. She was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority, International Honorary Sorority for Women Educators, and was a member of Hampton Heights Baptist Church. Mrs. Roaden was preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Chandler; granddaughter, Stacie Chandler; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Kermit and Patsy Nicholson, and Carl and Ruth Nicholson.
Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Jesse Roaden; sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Judy Roaden, Dallas, Texas, Glenn and Kay Roaden, Easley, S.C., David and Sandra Roaden, Simpsonville, and Roy and Diane Roaden, Aiken, S.C.; son-in-law, Bill Chandler, Commerce; grandchildren and spouses, Lynn and Jeff Crocker, Hope Moore, Michael and Melody Roaden, Lindsay and Shawn Boyer, Leslie and Bo Curry, Jessica and Vince Rosales and Brittany Roaden; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 14, at 3 p.m., in the downtown chapel of Thomas McAfee Funeral Home with visitation prior from 1:30 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Relay for Life Cancer Awareness in honor of her daughter, Joyce Chandler, c/o Greenville County Cancer Society, 113 Mills Ave., Greenville, SC 29605.
