ATHENS – Georgianna M. Havener, 86, died Sunday, March 29, 2009, at her residence.
Born in Longbranch, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Thomas Joseph and Josephine Emma Darragh Meagher. She was a member of the Chapelwood United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, was a Lioness with the Athens Lions Club, member of the Eastern Star, and was a volunteer with the Red Cross as well as Athens Regional Medical Center for many years. Mrs. Havener was preceded in death by her husband, Millard F. Havener.
Survivors include sons, Kenneth “Ken” R. Havener, Hayesville, N.C., W. Robert “Bob” Havener, Commerce, David Havener-Taylor, Nevada City, Calif; daughters, Kathy H. Whitaker and Susan P. Havener, both of Athens, Kay Crabill, Birmingham, Ala.; brother, John J. “Jack” Maher, Arlington, Va.; grandchildren, Adam W. Whitaker, Rachel P. Greenway, Elizabeth W. Halloran, Zachary Havener, Harry Havener, Maureen Havener, Nathan Taylor, Rosa Taylor, Sheri C. Drummonds; and four great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life was held Saturday, April 4, at the Chapelwood United Methodist Church with the Revs. Richard Moeller, Peggy Little and Thom Shores officiating. Honorary pallbearers were the United Methodist Women and the Homick Sunday School Class of Chapelwood United Methodist Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Chapelwood United Methodist Church Kitchen Renovation or Vista Care Hospice.
