HOSCHTON - Winfred G. Phillips, Sr., 86, died Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at his residence.
A native of Bainbridge, he was the son of the late Anvy and Lola Stokes Phillips and was a retired Statistical Programmer with The Atlanta Board of Education. He was a U. S. Army Air Corp veteran, having served in the South Pacific Theatre of World War II. A member of Bethabra Baptist Church, he had resided in Barrow County since 1977, and was a former resident of Atlanta.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Mary Spooner Phillips; sons, Winfred G. (Jerry) Phillips, Jr., and David M. Phillips, all of Hoschton; daughter, Lola Phillips Frost, Warner Robins; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and sister, Wilda Haley, Hollywood, Fla.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 28, from Bethabra Baptist Church, with the Revs. Jason Webster and Kevin Burgess officiating. Burial was in Barrow Memorial Gardens.
Carter Funeral Home, Winder, was in charge of arrangements.
