CLEVELAND – Calvin Luther Totherow, 78, died Saturday, March 28, 2009, in Commerce, following a period of declining health.
Born on January 18, 1931, in Union County, he was the son of Ralph Henry and Floy Neal Totherow. He was employed with the U.S. Postal Service for a brief period of time; afterwards he worked with Rogers Brothers Construction and Connie’s Wholesale Flowers. In 1989 he opened 4 A Auto Service, which he operated for a number of years. He was a member of White Creek Baptist Church, where he served on the deacon board and a veteran having served in the United States Air Force as a tail gunner on the B52 bomber. Mr. Totherow was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Hulsey Totherow; children, David Totherow, Felicia Totherow and Ruth Totherow; sisters, Pauline Payne and Elda Davis; and a brother, Charles Totherow.
Survivors include his wife, Norma Totherow, Cleveland; sons and daughter-in-law, Ralph and Jo Totherow, Commerce, Zachary Totherow, Cleveland; daughter, Callie Totherow, Cleveland; sister and brother-in-law, Roba and Bruce Keener, Mountain City; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 30, at 2 p.m., at White Creek Baptist Church with the Revs. Gary English, Carlton Allen, Gene Batson and Lee Richey officiating. Burial will be in County Line Baptist Church cemetery with military honors provided by the White County Color Guard. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday, March 30, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m.
