DEMOREST – Helen Elrod Collins, 75, died Thursday, March 26, 2009, at her residence following an extended illness.
Born in Habersham County on November 12, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Lizzie Irvin Elrod. She worked with Carwood Manufacturing and Fieldale Farms, and was of the Baptist denomination. Mrs. Collins was preceded in death by brothers, Levis, James and Kenneth Elrod; and a sister, Mary Elrod.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Janet and David Boisclair, Alto, and Carolyn Moody, Demorest; sons and daughter-in-law, Danny Collins, Clarkesville, David and Karen Collins, Demorest; brother, Vernon Elrod, Cornelia; sisters, Margie Morris, Cornelia, and Shirley Moss, Cleveland; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 29, at 2 p.m., in the chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home with the Revs. Royce Winters and Luther Williams officiating. Burial will be in New Hope Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday, March 28, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.
