ATHENS – Henry Grady Merk, 78, died Thursday, March 19, 2009.
Born in Jackson County, he was the son of the late Claude and Jurell Garrison Merk. Mr. Merk was preceded in death by his first wife, Freddie Ruth Garrison Merck.
He was a past member of the Classic City CB Radio Club, known as “Adam 12”, and was retired from Westinghouse Corporation after 30 years of service. He was a member of the West End Baptist Church in Athens, and was a veteran having served in the United States Army as a corporal from 1951-1953.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph “Joe” and Janice Merk, Danielsville, and Jerry and Ann Merk, Colbert; granddaughters, Lisa Dills, Lynette Merk, Katie Merk and Erin Merk; two great-grandchildren; sister, Claudine Merk, Jefferson; brothers, Robert Lewis Merk and Howard Merk, both of Jefferson.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 22, at 3 p.m., at the Dry Pond United Methodist Church with the Revs. Dayton Logan and Shannon West officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday, March 21, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Pallbearers will be Casey Dills, James Bullock, Jimmy Benton, Charles Booth, Toby Coleman and Whit Phillips.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Dry Pond United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 842, Jefferson, GA 30549.
