LULA - Ruth Hooper Evans, 88, died Sunday, March 15, 2009, at her residence, following an extended illness.
Born on September 29, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Lillie Mae and Charlie Hooper of Banks County. Mrs. Evans was preceded in death by her husband, Giles Evans; daughter, Opal; son, Leon; sisters, Clara Hooper and Mary Rowe; brothers, Dallas, D.A. and Roy Hooper; niece, Barbara Ruth Owen Armour.
Survivors include children, Gwen and Bob Johnson, Valdosta, Brenda and Billy Oliver, Gainesville, and David and Darlene Evans, Lula; grandchildren, Kimberly and Mark Johnson, Dunwoody, Karen and Chris May, Hahira, Shasta and Josh Gundlach, Gainesville, and Jason Evans, Lula; great-granddaughters, Brooke Evans, Lula, and Eliza Jane May, Hahira; sister, Dorothy Owens, Alto; brother, Ronald and Betty Hooper; sisters-in-law, Lorene Hooper and Rachel Hooper; nephews, Doug Owens, Denver Owens, both of Alto, Frank Hooper, Gainesville, and Jonathan Hooper, Lawrenceville; and nieces, LaNell Quinn, Bessemer City, N.C., Annette DeMore, Janice Turpin, Mt. Airy, Sandra Riceman, Greenville, S.C., Vickie Sullens and LaDonna Plum, Alto.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 19, at 2 p.m., in the Lula Assembly of Praise. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday, March 18, from 5 to 9 p.m., with the Revs. Scotty Poole and Robert Johnson officiating. Eulogy will be by Karen May. Burial will be in Hickory Flat Methodist Church cemetery.
