COMER – Myra Betsill Whitehead, 88, died Tuesday, March 10, 2009.
Born in Fayetteville on August 28, 1920, she was the daughter the late Ruth Harper and Bryant Betsill. She was educated in the Fayette County Schools, and in 1941 she moved to Comer. She was a long-time member of Comer Baptist Church and the Eliza Graham Sunday School Class. She was a member of the Comer Woman’s Club, Madison County Pilot Club, as well as other civic organizations. Mrs. Whitehead was preceded in death by her husband, William Reece Whitehead; an infant son, James Nolan Whitehead; sisters, Katherine Banks, Sally Maxwell; brothers, Tiller Betsill and Warner Betsill.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Ken and Linda Whitehead; grandchildren, Mike and Allison Whitehead, Melissa and Jimmy Yarbrough and Matt Whitehead; great-grandchildren, Madeline and Will Whitehead, Cory and Harlee Reece Yarbrough, all of Comer; sisters, Demaris Betsill and Jane Dyer, Fayetteville, Rachel Howell, Chattanooga, Tenn.; brother, Alec Betsill, Fayetteville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 13, at 11 a.m., at Comer Baptist Church with the Rev. Rodney Owens officiating. Burial will be at Colbert Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dennis Moon, Russ Moon, John Seginak, Jimmy Legg, Tim McCannon and E.L. Smith. The family will receive friends Thursday, March 12, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
