Sammy Lee Harper, 55, of Athens, died Tuesday, June 10, 2008, following a brief bout of lung cancer.
He was born in Madison County on August 9, 1952, the son of Genelle Wise Harper and the late Sam Harper. He was a member of Rogers Chapel Baptist Church. Mr. Harper was preceded in death by a brother, Charlie Harper.
Survivors in addition to his mother, include his wife, Diane Harper; a son, Terante Harper; daughters, Tamara and Kristie Harper; grandchildren, Jasmine, Jada, Zoria and India; sisters, Mary Ann Harper, Amy Nell Harper, Carolyn Walker, Linda Tabor, Elmira Wheeler and Pamela Harper; brothers, Jerry Harper, Michael Harper and Gregory Harper; brothers-in-law, Jimmy Walker, Van Tabor, Edwin Wheeler, Willie Otis Daniels; sisters-in-law, Bessie MacWhorter and Phyllis Daniels; mother-in-law, Annie Mae Daniels; special friend, James “Boo-Boo” Witcher; and a host of friends and relatives.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 14, at Rogers Chapel Baptist Church in Commerce with the Rev. Scotty Randolph officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Gardenview Funeral Chapel, Athens, was in charge of arrangements.
