HOMER – Roy E. Broome, 81, died Friday, February 27, 2009.
Born in Commerce, Jackson County, on January 20, 1928, he was the son of the late F.E. and Mamie Lee Vaughn Broome. He was a member of the Mount Carmel Baptist Church in Banks County, where he was a deacon and taught Sunday School for a number of years. He was a member of Gideon International and a member of Banks-Jackson East Camp, and was a retired supervisor from Chicopee-Lumite Division with 46 ½ years of service. Mr. Broome was a veteran, having served in the United States Navy during World War II.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Mary C. Broome, Homer; daughter and son-in-law, Rosemary and Keith Epps, Lula; granddaughter and spouse, Marie and Robert Sosebee, Sunday Oren, Daniel Oren and Jarad Oren; and four step grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 2, at Whitfield Funeral Home with the Revs. James Duncan and Billy Burrell officiating. Burial was at Yonah Memorial Gardens.
