Mary Elizabeth Rice Gordon, 90, of Mt. Airy, died Thursday, June 12, 2008, at a private care facility.
She was born on June 17, 1917, in Banks County, the daughter of the late Judge and Addie Kessler Rice. She was a retired seamstress from Cluette Peabody Company, a manufacturer of Arrow shirts. She was a former member of New Hope Baptist Church in the Lakewood Community in Atlanta, and was currently a member of Hazel Creek Baptist. Mrs. Gordon was preceded in death by her husband, Frank E. Gordon; a sister, Dede Hanley; and brothers, James, Johnny and Frank Willis Rice.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth E. and Cheryl Gordon, Demorest; sisters and brothers-in-law, Carol and Roy Dale, Lula, Avis and Jeff Jefferys, Stockbridge; brother and sister-in-law, Carmon and Nettie Rice, Loganville; grandchildren and spouses, Geri and Craig Kenner, Kevin and Melanie Gordon and Steve and Nicole Gordon; and great-grandchildren, Katie, Josh, James, Dana, Paul, Chandler, Meagan and Cole.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 14, at Hazel Creek Baptist Church with the Revs. Trent Smith and Billy Burrell officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, was in charge of arrangements.
