WINDER - Alton Hughes Carlyle, 84, died Friday, February 26, 2009.
Born in Jackson County, he was the son of the late Joseph W. and Elizabeth Ivey Carlyle. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sara Jo Teal Carlyle. Mr. Carlyle served in the United States Army from 1944 to 1946. He retired from General Motors after 32 years.
Survivors include sons Dan Carlyle, Prescott, Arizona, David Carlyle, Auburn, and Tony Carlyle, Carnesville; daughter, Susan Venable, Carnesville; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters, Sadie Teal, Auburn, Lilly Mae Gorman, Statham, and Rachel Dunagan, Winder.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 1, at 2 p.m., at Smith Memory Chapel with the Rev. Leon Pass officiating. Burial will be in Barrow Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday, February 28, from 4 to 9 p.m., at the funeral home.
