FORSYTH COUNTY – Walter Harrison Rucker Sr., died Friday, February 13, 2009, following a long illness.
Born on July 17, 1926, in Elbert County, he was the son of James Harrison and Lillian Burris Rucker. After graduating Middleton High School in Elberton, he attended North Georgia Tech to become a radio operator and used his skills while serving on the USS Arkansas in World War II, where he enlisted in the Navy at age 18. He was also in the Army Reserves for a number of years following World War II.
Survivors include a son, Walter H. Rucker Jr., Athens; daughters and sons-in-law, Kim Rucker and Phillip Davis, Jefferson, and Ann Rucker and Richard Buice, Cumming; grandchildren, Dr. Megan D. Seabolt (Justin), Christian P. Gill, Casey M. Gill; and great-grandchild, Katelyn Seabolt; sisters, Carolyn R. Richardson, Tucker, Besimae R. Cleveland and Hazel R. Fellows, both of Elberton; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
Funeral services were held Monday, February 16, in the chapel of Ingram Funeral Home with Bob Jolly officiating. Burial was in Vans Creek Baptist Church cemetery in Elberton.
Ingram Funeral Home, Cumming, was in charge of arrangements.
